Advice for ADDHD attention deficit – do CBD oil and Psilocybin help?
Q: I have not settled on any Homeopathic remedy for the ADHD/attention issues as yet. I have recently become aware of Bobby Greenhash products. Are you familiar with them? They are based in Durban.
Most of the remedies revolve around CBD oils. Many accounts of people using the CBD oils and balms for attention and anxiety issues and a myriad of other ailments. I’m still trying to understand the mechanism of action for adhd though. There is also a product called Psilocaps based on Psilobycin. Further investigation led to all kinds of interesting research by John Hopkins and such on the use of Psilobycin for depression, anxiety, ADHD.
I would never, ever administer either CBD or psilocybin to my children though! I am considering it for my own use.
Do you have any thoughts on this or knowledge to share?
A: Yes, I can see that you have been beguiled into thinking that substances that mess with the brain will cure attention deficit disorders. No, they don’t and never will. They have a number of disturbing and dangerous side effects. Like Ritalin, they flood the brain with an external source of neurotransmitters. This shuts down your natural production because the body is forced to depend on chemicals to either stimulate or calm down the brain. This leads to drug dependence – regardless of whether it is a natural or a manmade chemical. These are the facts.
A flood of excitatory chemicals or amphetamines (from Ritalin, concerto, etc) are prescribed to so-called produce the ability to pay attention. As an alternative people are encouraged to use calming down chemicals from plants? Both cannabis and psilocybin are associated with psychoactive and addictive effects. One would have to be 100% sure that the CBD oil is very pure. It is very expensive and there is no way school teachers would like their pupils to take magic mushroom capsules!
There are two types of attention deficit disorders. One is based on a dopamine overload, the other on a dopamine deficiency and there are specific problems and situations that need to be corrected. Drugs cannot do this, only a good diet, the elimination of allergies, detoxification, parasite removal and ample supplementation can. A deficiency of essential fatty acids is a lot cheaper to correct with Omega 3 than CBD, for instance.
It is easy enough to use safer, cheaper nutritionally based supplements that have been clinically tested for children to use. For instance, click on this link to order a more suitable product for your children:

Many components in cannabis are present in other plants:
Terpines, for instance
Terpines are basically fragrant oils, like those used in aromatherapy. Lavender, for instance has a key fragrance due to terpines such as linalool that are present. They have calming, sedative, anti-anxiety effects, as we know. So why do we need linalool from cannabis to relax? Limonene is responsible for increasing serotonin levels – a neurotransmitter in charge of our mood. It is also present in citrus peel, helichrysum (imphepho) so why do we need to take cannabis products to do that?
Another terpine called myrcene is also supposedly useful in reducing inflammation and chronic pain, which is why cannabis is usually recommended as a supplement during cancer treatments. Mangoes are full of myrcene! And what about caryophyllene? It is also found in black pepper, cinnamon, cloves, and spices like oregano, basil, and rosemary. All these plants have anti-inflammatory,analgesic and anxiolytic properties. Some studies have found that caryophyllene has a very promising role in alcohol rehabilitation. So load up on spicy aromas!
Pinene has an anti-inflammatory effect and is good for respiratory problems. Plants that are rich in pinene include rosemary, orange peels, basil, parsley and cannabis, of course. But it depends on the strain of cannabis used, because not all these terpines are present in the average cannabis – based products. However, they are abundant everywhere else in nature for a fraction of the cost! Pinene also helps to reduce memory loss related to excessive THC consumption. Alpha-bisabolol proved to be effective in treating bacterial infections and wounds and is a great antioxidant with anti-irritation and analgesic properties. It also comes from camomile flowers.
Eucalyptol is freely available from eucalyptus oil (Vicks VapoRub) relieves pain but also slows down the growth of bacteria and fungus. Although it is still in the early stages of research, this terpene has shown some promising effects on Alzheimer’s as well. Not many cannabis strains have significant amounts of eucalyptol. Trans-nerolidol is best known for its antiparasitic, antioxidant, antifungal, anticancer and antimicrobial properties. It is found mostly in flowers like jasmine, lemongrass, and tea tree oil. Its smell is a mixture of rose, lemon and apple tones, and can be described in general as both woody and citrusy.
Humulene is found in hop clove, sage, and black pepper with earthy, woody and spicy fragrance notes. It has many medical properties and suppressing appetite, reduces inflammation, relieves pain and fights bacterial infections. Delta 3 carene is found in rosemary, basil, bell peppers, cedar and pine. Its aroma is sweet and resembles the smell of cypress. Delta 3 carene stimulates our memory and helps with memory retention. Borneol, with its herbal minty scent, can be found in herbs like rosemary, mint, and camph is a good natural insect repellent
Terpineol tastes like anise and mint. It has a pleasant scent, similar to lilac, and is a common ingredient in perfumes, cosmetics, and food. It is a well-known relaxant, antibiotic and antioxidant. Geraniol can be found in lemons and tobacco. Its smell resembles a mixture of rose grass, peaches, and plums. It’s usually used in aromatic bath products and body lotions. Geraniol has shown a lot of potential as a neuroprotectant and antioxidant.
The symbiosis between cannabinoids and terpenes is what gives cannabis its special powers, as it improves the absorption of the cannabinoids.
How to generate your own endocannabinoids: with exercise!
To get the most out of our exercise sessions we need to work hard enough to generate endorphins, the feel-good neurotransmitters. We also experience a state of euphoria from endogenous messengers called endocannabinoids. New studies show that these molecules (like cannabis) can penetrate the blood-brain barrier whereas endorphins cannot. The longer you keep on jogging the more you will benefit from that runner’s high. With a free supply of these neurochemicals you can overcome pain and feel good. Exercise can help a number of cardiovascular related problems. Exercise can also help to:
lower elevated blood pressure
control insulin resistance
improve circulation and the flow of oxygen
reduce mental stress and get fresh air
improve your cholesterol profile
make you fitter and better toned
prevent and reduce diabetes 2 and obesity
help control fibrinogen levels (blood clotting)
After 30 minutes of strenuous exercise your blood sugar drops. If you continue to exercise, the body gets the message to generate growth hormones. This sets off a fat burning sequence and is why little 10 minute sessions are not as beneficial as a good long, hard hour’s workout. But do something, even if it is only a few minutes a day and then build up your fitness level. Do plenty of abdominal work to strengthen the back and to burn off the bulges. Remember that the pleasurable effects on your neurotransmitters are short lived and the body will only produce endocannabinoids when they are needed, providing you maintain adequate levels of Omega 3 oil and keep levels of pro-inflammatory oils, especially the Omega 6 group to a minimum. There are no short cuts to maintaining a healthy essential fatty acid balance to control weight, pain and inflammation. We need to find out why brain cells and neuron It is important to understand that the overwhelming publicity about the benefits of smoking cannabis does not justify the need to zone out and become a pot smoker just to feel less pain or to shrink a tumour. There are other cheaper, more sensible and accessible means to justify these ends. Even without going near a cannabis plant we can all improve the widely claimed beneficial effects, probably with fewer adverse reactions, including the legal implications. There are many herbs and food supplements we can use to improve brain function and neural signalling. s fail to interact with each other. Treating the cause will help us to solve the problem in the first place.
